Best foods for fussy dogs

Digestion

Whether your dog is off their food, has a sensitive stomach or is just plain fussy, it can be a worrying time.

Just A Fussy Eater?

Dogs will occasionally miss a meal, which can often be normal behaviour. They are quite resistant to starvation compared to humans so it’s usually nothing to worry about, but you should always monitor their intake closely, especially for puppies.

You also have to decide if your dog is fussy or unwell. If a dog is truly unable to eat for a long period of time, it’s likely to be related to a medical issue. Always check with a vet if you are in doubt and consider trying them with sensitive stomach dog food, designed to be easy to digest

How Can I Encourage My Fussy Dog To Eat?

  • There are several ways of enhancing dog food for fussy dogs or encouraging them to eat. Here are some of our top tips:

  • Choose a dog food with high-quality ingredients. Check the label on the back, look for named meats (no by-products) as the first ingredient.

  • Change the menu – variety is the spice of life after all. Getting some new and exciting dog food will make it more difficult for them to turn their nose up at dinner time.

  • Adding our nutrition boosting bone broth to your dog’s food can work wonders to stimulate appetite, making it the perfect addition to dog food for fussy eaters.

  • Feed a little less and at regular times.

  • Keep treats to a minimum.

  • There’s nothing like exercise to stimulate appetite, so why not take your dog for a walk before each meal?

  • If your dog has digestion issues (e.g. diarrhoea, flatulence), it may be uncomfortable for them to eat. You can try adding probiotics to their diet to help aid digestion or consider a sensitive dog food. Some dog foods have allergens that can cause issues for dogs with sensitive stomachs – try them on something that you can see all the ingredients of.
